Hardwood Flooring Care & Maintenance

Cleaning tips, spill removal, and more

Caring for your new hardwood flooring

Hardwood flooring is among the most popular flooring solutions currently on the market. However, it does require a degree of care and maintenance to keep it in top shape. Read on to learn more.

Regular care & maintenance

At Shelley Carpets, we highly recommend following a hardwood care and maintenance routine. Invest in doormats and remove all outdoor shoes before walking across your hardwood flooring. To protect your hardwood from furniture indentations, use floor protectors or area rugs.

Everyday care and maintenance should include sweeping, vacuuming, and dry mopping your hardwood flooring. Make sure to check with your manufacturer to see a list of approved vacuum cleaners before caring for your flooring. If your flooring needs more than just a dry surface clean, use a manufacturer-approved cleaning solution and follow all guidelines.

Dealing with spills

Life happens, and the occasional spills is inevitable. Fortunately, it's not the end of the world! Most common spills like liquids or pet accidents will wipe away clean, especially on hardwood flooring with stain- and scuff-resistant technology. Tend to liquid spills immediately, as hardwood flooring is not water-resistant. For other common stains like wax residue or nail polish, consult with your manufacturer’s guidelines.
