Caring for your new carpet
At Shelley Carpets, we recommend regular care and maintenance to keep your new carpet looking beautiful and feeling plush. We understand you don’t necessarily have a lot of time to invest in upkeep; however, following some simple and easy care and maintenance steps will ensure the longevity of your carpet.
Daily and preventative care
Establish a preventative maintenance routine for your carpet that works with your lifestyle and existing cleaning schedule. Start by removing outdoor shoes before walking across your carpet so you don’t track dirt inside the house. Use a high-quality carpet pad for additional support. For most of our products, daily to weekly vacuuming with a manufacturer-approved appliance is really all you need to do!
Professional cleanings
Throughout the year, we suggest either an occasional professional cleaning or a DIY shampoo at home if recommended by your manufacturer. Regardless of what kind of care and maintenance routine you establish for yourself, it’s always important to follow the recommendations of your carpet manufacturer to ensure maximum performance and a beautiful end result.
Dealing with spills and stains
Life can be messy, and some of those messes will inevitably end up on your carpet. Fortunately, many of our carpets are sold with stain-resistant technology built into their fibers.
When it comes to common household stains like spilled milk, pet accidents, or makeup stains, you’ll probably want to jump right in and clean up the mess. Take a second to first establish whether it’s an oil-based stain or water-based stain. Then, consult your manufacturer's care guidelines. Some stains are easier to remove while others require a more comprehensive approach.
